Surprisingly, no one in class has yet to mention the CAN-SPAM Act of 2003 (Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography And Marketing Act of 2003) which supposedly outlines the requirements for commercial messages, gives recipients the right to have you stop emailing them, and spells out tough penalties for violations. Some say it is like the Do Not Call registry. However, the impression I have is that it has been ineffective to stop spam, it actually encourages spam. and has not been enforced. Perhaps that is why no one in class mentioned it.
