Which one of the management theories identified and described in the two Webliography readings on management thought development do you feel best describes the way in which you have managed (or have been managed) and which one of those management theories do you feel is best?

Provide an example if illustrative and explanatory of your choice. Defend your position for the theory you feel is best.

In my current position i feel that the best way to describe my managers style is within the Human Relations element. He is very much concerned with the employees daily lives both in and outside of work. He also very rarely emotes anger or aggression. He more that likely will be very pleasant and understanding.

Personally this is a wonderful job, however sometimes some authority should be shown. I feel as though some sort of combination of the theories is best when applied to the workplace.

Human Relations is very important but it cannot create a soft environment in which employees are able to walk over supervisors and managers. there has to be order and hierarchy of authority that must be respected. Discussions and disagreements are different that insubordination. Managers need to make sure they know when to put their foot down.

This sometimes bleeds over into the bureaucratic theory. I have personal experience in dealing with friends that take advantage of your managerial status.

I was forced to show the authority that i rightly had as their manager and this cost a personal toll. However a simple understanding and level of respect for my position from my friends would have been enough to keep the Human Relations side of the style complete.
