1. Practice using verbal, nonverbal and vocal prompts/probes and describe examples of using each, and the effect or result. Verbal probes can include statements, requests, questions and single words or phrases that are, in effect, questions or requests.
2. Which do you think you will be better as a helper in using? Why?
3. Does using any of these feel phony? Put another way, do you feel honest and genuine when using these skills? How might you feel more honest and genuine?
4. Practice using the skill of summarizing and explain the situation and result. What effect did it have?
