Whether technology will hinder or help law enforcement

Whether technology will hinder or help law enforcement relationships is all about how the community perceives the technology. The police will receive a lot of pushback from the community if people feel that the technology being used is invading their privacy, which is a huge concern for most people. Things like security cameras around houses and communities are thought of less of a threat than something more personal like police men in cars driving around a neighborhood. I believe police body cameras are a good idea for several reasons. This is because the cameras can capture evidence that can be used for court cases, it keeps officers from breaking protocol and it may deter the perpetrator from doing something reckless if they are being taped. When you look at this sort of technology conflicting with the fourth amendment, I think that if probable cause for a search is obvious and recorded on camera, then it should be conducted for the safety of the people. However, if the evidence is taken to court and it is found that the search was unwarranted, then it can be thrown out. If police officers wore cameras, It would reduce stereotypes and capture important evidence while keeping the officer in check and somewhat protected by means of visual evidence if something went down. I think technology can make communities safer. People who have security systems and cameras are less likely to be victims of burglary. The same can be said for making communities safer in the U.S and globally. Hopefully with the rapidly growing advancements in technology, we can find more ways to use it nobly and to protect others. In turn investigative tools would be more capable, crime rates would drop and new data collecting tools can help advance predictive policies.
