Question: When researchers use a convenience sampling for their study it can prove to be easier to obtain permission for the collection of their data but it can also create some limitations. Hayward, Greenwood, Nippins, & Canali (2015) found that by using convenience sampling it reduced the generalizability of the results.
Other limitations that may exist when using convenient sampling may include: convenience samples may not include variance on the variable of interest, convenience samples may not represent the population of interest, convenience samples like college students, online panels, and crowdsourcing have numerous representativeness limitations (Costanza, Blacksmith, &Coats, 2015).
