What you would consider in making appointment of new justice

Problem:

When there is a vacancy on the United States Supreme Court, the sitting President of the United States appoints a new justice with the approval of the United States Senate. Depending on the politics of the President making the appointment, you could get a more liberal minded justice OR a more conservative minded justice and the political make-up of the United States Supreme Court could change - which can impact the outcome of Court's decisions. When making an appointment to the United States Supreme Court, the President will also take other qualities into consideration like previous experience, previous rulings as a judge (if they were or are a judge in another court), their personal life, and the likelihood the justice will get approved by the Senate.  Supreme Court justices serve for life or until they retire or are removed from office.  If you were the President and were to fill a vacancy on the United States Supreme Court, tell me what you would consider in making an appointment of a new justice to fill a vacancy on the Court.  Remember that a President must think strategically because party affiliation of those in the Senate can impact a vote on the candidate.  Fully explain your answer.
