What you have learned about islam and islamic art

Problem

In the video titled The Complex Geometry of Islamic Art the narrator stated that sophisticated abstraction and complex geometry are used on objects such as carpets, tilework, and architecture in patterns that seem to repeat infinitely "inspiring wonder and contemplation of eternal order." Furthermore, you learned the definition of aniconic art and the purpose it serves.

Considering what you have learned about Islam and Islamic art, why do you think the geometric patterns consistently have shapes of stars and/or flowers?

One might say that it is just a result of tessellation, but what symbolism might be considered in the forms of stars or flowers? What ideas do we associate with stars and flowers that can enrich our perception of these "decorations"?
