In the past few years, as more physicians are using clinical decision support systems (CDS), many systems have not lived up to expectations. This has required customization work on the part of health informatics professionals and vendors. The term "alert fatigue" is commonly used, signifying that many providers are tired of seeing the pop-up messages and in many cases request that the CDS be turned off in order to optimize workflow and efficiency.
