What would be four to five key issues with the Bell Atlantic and NYNEX Merger in 1997? I'm working on getting my case analysis started. Would some of the issues be (1) The merging parties did not demonstrate that the product market should be defined so broadly as to place these dedicated services in the same product market as local switched services supplied to residences and small businesses. (2) The merging parties failed to show how the CAPs' success as suppliers of dedicated circuit service predicted substantial future market shares or significance in markets for local switched services, especially markets for supplying such services to residential and small business customers. (3) The merging companies claimed they would find it more difficult to offer competitive rates and innovative services separate companies than as a merged firm, because as separate firms they would realize fewer economies of scale and scope.
