Assignment: Culture Immersion
Cultural Immersion Paper: Use textbooks, class materials, outside sources, and use APA format (Note: first person expression is expected). Reflect on your experiences and your prior preconceived ideas. Which of those preconceived ideas are now open to re-interpretation and why? What have you learned about yourself and "them" now that the immersion is over? Take what you have learned about this group and yourself and apply it in a counseling context. Assume you have a client from this group and discuss each of the following:
Part A:
1) Use the insights you gained into your preconceived ideas of this group to identify ways you will cope with your internal dialogue about clients from this group. Have your biases shifted, and how will you keep your internalized biases at bay?
2) What are some likely counseling issues you might expect from this group and why?
3) What approaches (counseling and systemic) will you use and why?
4) What are the ethical and legal issues inherent in counseling a client from this group?
5) What will you do now to be ready to meet this future client?
6) What did you learn in this experience that you will use with future multicultural/diverse clients?
7) This part of the paper should be about 5-6 pages in length .
Part B:
1) Write a brief scenario/case study of a client from your chosen culture for this paper.
2) Describe a theory or combination of theories that you would utilize when counseling this client and why.
3) How do you begin your session?
4) What special considerations do you take into account for this client?
5) How do you build trust or rapport with this client?
6) How do you develop the treatment plan?
7) How do you evaluate the outcome of your counseling with this client?
Format your assignment according to the following formatting requirements:
(1) The answer should be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides.
(2) The response also includes a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student's name, the course title, and the date. The cover page is not included in the required page length.
(3) Also include a reference page. The Citations and references should follow APA format. The reference page is not included in the required page length.
