Assignment task: The topic of the discussion is as follows:
When someone asks you 'Where you are form', what are some of the thoughts that go through your mind? Do you start with your national identity? Ethnic identity? Where you were born or the land you are currently located in? Do you feel offended by the question in any way?
Consider the following points/questions as you write your response:
1. What do you think the people who ask this question could mean by it? Consider at least two possibilities.
2. Why do you think people respond differently to this question? For example, if a person is from a country in Asia and in the past year they have become a Canadian Citizen, what is the likely response to the 'Where you are form' question?
3. What are some ways that people have asked you or someone you know 'Where you are form' with other questions to avoid being offensive? For example, 'Where you are rooted'?
