Assignment task: When Brent discusses his idea of mentoring or "making space" for others to explore their sexual identities, what does he mean by that, and what do you think about that idea? (at least 100 words)Answer: 1. My overall impressions of Brent's discussion of his sexual orientation were that he was very open and honest about his experiences, and I admired his courage in expressing himself and his vulnerability in talking about the struggles he has faced. He discussed his journey of self-discovery and the importance of embracing his identity and not allowing himself to be defined by the expectations of others. He also showed a great deal of compassion and understanding for those who may not understand or agree with his lifestyle. 2. I think Brent's observation is spot-on. We often find ourselves clinging to those things that are most fiercely under attack by others, as we feel a strong need to defend and protect them. I have witnessed this in many different contexts, both personally and professionally. I have seen people stand up for their beliefs and values despite social criticism, and have experienced the same myself when I felt strongly about something that I was passionate about.
