Mr ben is a 60-year-old man, that lives in Carmacks, Yukon. This is located in a rural area. He is divorced, has no kids and lives alone. He is supported by a Personal Support Worker. Mr ben is a retired coal miner with a chronic illness called Pneumoconiosis. Mr. Ben developed this illness after inhaling airborne respirable dust during the time he worked. Mr ben has no source of income other than the welfare check of $1909 he receives from the government every month. Now that the cost of groceries and other expenses has been added in, most of the money has already been spent. This medication cost $100 per shot in this province. Mr. Ben will require oxygen therapy for at least 15 hours each day given his circumstances. His medical care would cost about $1,500 in total. Since of this barrier, he can decide not to seek medical therapy because he would rather spend his money on things he needs for everyday living instead, such as food, water, electricity, and other necessities. The closest hospital is also 1 hr 17 mins away from his home.
