What were the four most important events and/or controversies between 1846 and 1861 that pushed the country toward a civil war (up to but excluding Secession)? ALso, because the issues between 184-6 and 1861 are all related to the debate over slavery, don't identify "slavery" as one of the four. That goes without saying.
