What were the causes of the arab spring

Essay Structure: What were the causes of the Arab spring?

Intro: summaries everything, introduce your main question and argument.

1st par: Talk about the Arab Spring- give a short timeline of all countries included, with the main event of each revolution and at least one reason for each. For example (In Libya they revolted against a totalitarian regime which was led by an autocrat/sultan for over than 40 years/ people in Syria revolted against Bashar due to the state violence/no freedom of speech etc. and so on with the others)

2nd par: Focus on Egypt and mention why did you choose it as a case study out of all of them. But before getting into the details of the revolution, talk about how the country was under mubaraks regime (unemployment/poverty/dictatorship). Good reasons would be: it was one of the most peaceful ones along with Tunisia. They had another revolution after two years against Morsi and the Muslim brotherhood. Remember to just give a general summary of it to make it look special and don’t talk about everything to give some chance to the other paragraphs.

3rd par: Focus on the beginning of the revolution. The first one against Mubarak. Talk about the protests/ Tahrir square/ the network revolution (Social media: facebook, twitter, youtube) talk about the bloggers Khaleed Saeed and Wael Ghonim. How did Mubarak loose the US legitimacy.

4th par: How did people find themselves giving their first democratic elections away to the muslim brotherhood? And did the lefties/liberals/seculars give their votes to islamist Morsi instead of the pro-Mubarak regime guy (Ahmed Shafiq) in a similar way that the lefties/liberals/seculars of iran supported Khomeini during their revolution against the Shah? It would be a good comparison.

5th par: Talk about the mistakes of the muslim brotherhood or Morsi more precisely and what were the negatives and positives. And what changed in Egypt after the 1st revolution in general? How and why did Sisi do his military coup against Morsi and how did the Egyptians react to it? And was that when we witnessed the first political clashes between the islamists and the seculars in the country?

6th par: How is Egypt now under Sisi? And is it better than Morsi or are we back to Mubarak’s dictatorship?

Conclusion: Final answer (examples: what might happen? Any fears?) and why is Egypt facing ups and downs since the 2011, and are people struggling to deal with the democratic process, or is the ex-political corruption the new born era.
