A. What were some of the central institutions of Roman society? How was Roman society similar to other contemporary or earlier Mediterranean societies? How did it differ? Some points to consider: men and women, citizens and non-citizens, aristocrats (nobiles) and non-aristocrats, slavery.
B. What was the Roman Republic? How did it work? How did it develop in response to the social, military and political rise of the city-state of Rome? How did the Roman Republic compare to Athenian Democracy or other ancient states?
C. Based on the first two questions provide a question or comment.
