What were a few things about arafats family that confused

PART I: WRITING APPLICATION

In this homework assignment, you will turn in a document that is one page in length and consists of a paragraph plan and the final draft of that completed paragraph. You may include your prewriting if you wish. Use word processing software, such as Microsoft Word or OpenOffice Writer, to complete the assignment. Remember to use proper APA format. Use the APA Format Guide, which is included in the Module 1 Reading Assignment.

Step 1: Choose one of the following topics to use to create a paragraph plan. Prewrite to gather as many ideas as you can about one of the following:

• What it takes to a good parent
• Why good study habits are critical in college
• A time when you felt very proud of yourself

Step 2: Create your paragraph plan.

Remember that a good paragraph begins with a topic sentence. When you have your topic sentence, you can create supporting ideas. Use your best prewriting ideas. Write out a list or use full sentences. You should organize your ideas in logical order.

Step 3: After you have your paragraph plan created and organized, create a paragraph.

As you create your paragraph, you must incorporate simple sentences, compound sentences, and complex sentences.

PART II: READING COMPREHENSION

Step 1: Read "Being A Hyphenated American" by Zaina Arafat on page 508 in your textbook.

Step 2: Answer the following questions using a variety of sentence structures, but please ensure that you are writing in complete sentences. After you have written the sentence, state the type of sentence you have written.

1. Arafat begins the essay with a little story about her complaints to her mother. What eventually surprised her mother?

2. What were a few things about Arafat's family that confused her American friends?

3. In the last paragraph, the author says that she has "a foot in both worlds." Why did she think this is an advantage?

4. Give an example of Arafat's use of a simple sentence followed by a compound or complex sentence. Why do you think she varied her sentence length?

Step 3: In a well-structured paragraph that is about five to eight sentences in length, please respond to the following:

Have you ever had to adjust to a new environment, a new culture, or do you know someone that had to adjust to your culture? What did you or this person have to do to adjust? Use at least one simple, one compound, and one complex sentence in this paragraph. Apply all the skills you have learned about paragraphs, punctuation, and FANBOYS in your paragraph.

Note: You may submit the paragraph in the same file, but please use a separate page and ensure that you use APA format.
