In this discussion video, it was hit or miss on the artworks that I knew and did not know. I did recognize some of the names such as Da Vinci, Van Gogh, Michelangelo, Picasso, and Munch. The time periods I researched artists on that were in this video was a wide variety from the mid-1400s to the early 1900s. During the Renaissance period, Leonardo Da Vinci painted a lot of interesting pieces that helped us understand our history. Da Vinci painted many biblical pieces including the last supper and the Baptism of Christ ("50 Greatest Paintings", 2015). Di Vinci mind was very intelligent, and he was credited with many ideas that were beyond the technology of his time period. Items later built that his designs resembled include the flying machine, parachute, helicopter, the armored car, and many more ("Leonardo Da Vinci Inventions", n.d.).

There were many different social conditions portrayed in paintings during the different eras in the video. One interesting one I found was Van Gogh painting The Potato Eaters. This showed a depiction of what it was like during the 1800s as a peasant, or a poor person ("50 Greatest Paintings", 2015). During the Renaissance era, there were many depictions of the wealthy. This time period in Europe was intended to imitate the Ancient Greeks but turned into much more ("What were the Social Factors That Led to the Renaissance in Italy", n.d.). They stressed individualism, reason, beauty, and material values ("What were the Social Factors That Led to the Renaissance in Italy", n.d.). Since the new rulers saw the state as a work of art, the artist was able to take advantage and benefit from this financially ("What were the Social Factors That Led to the Renaissance in Italy", n.d.).
