An inadequate understanding of the role and impacts of the urban transportation systems has often led to a lot of confusion in transportation planning. The confusion was strengthened by an early article called “The Urban Transportation Problem.” This text ultimately misdirected transport analysis conducted by academics for many years exemplifying the knowledge gap between the academics and the practitioners. What was the cause for such a discrepancy between theory and practice?
