What was the aftermath for vietnamese and for america

Question: America signed a peace treaty with North and South Vietnam in January 1973 that promised American military aid should the North Vietnamese regime violate the agreement and resume offensive operations against South Vietnam; after America's departure from South Vietnam the U.S. Congress was in no mood for re-involving America in South Vietnam's defense, so when North Vietnam resumed its war against South Vietnam little aid was forthcoming from Washington.  In the spring of 1975 the North launched a major offensive that succeeded far beyond their expectations, and the farther south they drove the more South Vietnam's defenses collapsed.  The end came on 30 April 1975 when the communists overran South Vietnam's capital of Saigon.

Tell us about this last offensive and the fall of South Vietnam:

How did North Vietnam's offensive take shape and unfold, how did the South Vietnamese government try to cope, and how did President Gerald Ford and the U.S. Congress react to South Vietnam's plight?

What was the aftermath for the Vietnamese and for America when South Vietnam fell?
