• Middle Ages or Middle of Nowhere? Describe one of the historical developments that made medieval Europe a very dynamic part of the world that went through significant changes in the space of 1000 years. What was so transformative about this development? ("Transformative" events can be positive, negative, mixed, or something else entirely. Not all change is for the better....)
• Hitched, Hatched, and Dispatched. Describe the ways in which the history of Western Europe in the medieval period is closely connected to the history of the Catholic Church. Did the Church exert a conservative influence on society, a transformative effect, or a combination of the two? How did it do so?
