Problem:
To understand a community essentially means that you must learn about the needs of the community, some of their relationships, strengths, and some of their experiences, and not focus on just one problem area (Brown & Stalker, 2022). An example would be someone go into a neighborhood that they are unfamiliar with and assume that the neighborhood is filled with crime, but some of the issues that the community may deal with are not having streetlights, speed bumps, or not having enough after school programs for the children in the community. The process in which collected information to help understand s communities' needs, resources and strengths is called a community assessment (Brown & Stalker, 2022). There are a few ways to gather the information, one way is to take surveys, another is interviewing and, one last one is to review data, like records or reports, to get to understand some of the trend of the community. Community assessment data can be used to help a social worker create programs that will address the needs of the community (Brown & Stalker, 2022).
