Problem
If you are the intake PN for a home care agency and have been assigned a new client and your client is a 79 year old male who lives at home with his wife who is the same age. Your client is able to ambulate independently with the assistance of a cane. He has no difficulties with eating meals that are prepared for him. He needs assistance with dressing and bathing and has trouble making it to the toilet on time. Based upon the Katz Index of Independence in Activities of Daily Living, what is his functioning level? What does this mean for you as the intake nurse? What types of nursing care will this client require?
