Problem
Describing how a Democratic country of your choice fits into the frameworks we have discussed. First pick a country that is classified as democratic by V-dem or Freedom House. You do not need the exact numbers, but discuss what type of regime the country has based on the information from these sources. Then answer what question from the following set are relevant to your chosen country:
A. What type of democracy is it? Presidential, Parliamentary, or Semi-presidential?
B. Who is the current executive(s)? What are some of their powers?
C. Between the head of government and head of state who holds the most power? Why?
D. What type of electoral and party system does your country have? Majoritarian? PR? MMM, MMP? AV? Etc.
E. How does the electoral system effect the number of parties and stability of governance?
F. How many veto players do you think there are in the current government? Why?
G. How does this affect the frequency policy turn over (log rolling/passing legislation)?
H. Have there been any recent changes in electoral systems, election timing, or government arrangements? What affect(s) has this resulted in? If not, are there any changes in discussion or potential ones that have recently failed?
I. Is your country in democratic decline? Why do you believe this to be true? Give an example.
