Discussion Post: Politics and Persuasive Speech
For a politician to be successful and gain reelection, he or she must convince you - the voter - of his or her values. Campaign speeches are the candidates' attempts to persuade you to vote for them. Recall some of the campaign speeches you may have heard in the past (or look online for different campaign speeches from various candidates). Are these speeches persuasive? Explain. Based on your readings, how do the speeches agree or disagree with what the text presents as characteristics of successful persuasive speeches?
