What supply chain management in healthcare refers

Problem: Keep it 400 words: In my role as a Clinical Research Associate, supply chain management is one of the things I encounter every day, and it is much more than just logistics. Supply chain management in healthcare refers to the interconnected network of individuals, procedures, and systems responsible for ensuring that the correct materials arrive at their appropriate destinations at the right times. This system is so seamless that when it functions correctly, we hardly notice it, but when there are problems, we realize them almost immediately in the patients' wellbeing and in the research. According to Langabeer and Helton (2021), supply chain management is one of the operational functions of a healthcare organization where purchasing, inventory, and distribution activities determine the financial and clinical performance of a company. The statement is relevant in my area since clinical research involves purchasing, inventory, and distribution procedures of various materials such as clinical trials medications, medical equipment, and biological samples from patients. Any delay in delivering these resources affects the efficiency and efficacy of conducting a study and increases the likelihood of deviations, leading to additional costs and possible health risks for patients.
