Randall Stuart, an expert on the U.S. economy, says that the American Dream is over.
The American Dream died during the Reagan era of too-much, too-soon and we will not recover in our lifetime or our children?s lifetime, if ever. The U.S. standard of living will continue to decline as the government squanders tax dollars and hands out money to every industry on the brink of collapse. Americans will continue to work harder and harder to earn less and less. The American Dream of having job security and a better life than our parents will fall to the wayside and become the American Nightmare — hoping that we can just put bread on the table at the end of the day.?
Assignment: Write whether you agree with, disagree with or qualify what Stuart says about the American Dream.
Make sure you have a strong thesis that not only states your position, but why you have that position.
Consider what Stuart says about the Reagan era ? consider other positions we have read ? is he on target?
Consider whether Stuart has a point in blaming the government.
At the end of your paper, it should be clear whether we are living the American Dream or the American Nightmare. Also consider Adam Levin's essay has the American Dream been redefined. What is today's consensus on what the American Dream means to most Americans.
Remember to identify Stuart in your introduction. Don?t assume your reader knows who he is.
Try not to repeat what Stuart says verbatim. Paraphrase his argument.
Make mention of Stuart/his argument in your thesis statement. Your paper is about whether you agree/disagree/qualify with his statement that the American Dream is over.
You must have a Works Cited page.

Use at least three outside sources for your paper. One source must be a journal article.
