One strategy is practicing cultural humility. Understanding that I don't know everything about a student's background and being open to learning from them. Understanding that I don't know what their personal experiences are, moving from PR to NY. I would do this by creating a safe and respectful space where students feel comfortable sharing their experiences, beliefs, and values. I would make sure that I approach this student with openness, respect, and willingness to learn from them. I would make sure that I use clear and simple language when speaking to the student to make sure communication is clear and encourage them to express themselves in the way that makes them feel most comfortable. I would make sure that I am actively listening to them speak and give non-verbal cues. I would also help the student find resources to help them with tutoring services like English support or organizations with bilingual students. This can also help build friendships with other students at the school. I believe this would be effective because it allows trust to be built and shows respect for the student's cultural background and current challenges.
I find culture to be a combination of shared values, beliefs, traditions, and experiences that shape how a person views the world. My own cultural background has influenced my view of what I define as culture by emphasizing the importance of communication, respect, and understanding others' perspectives. These values help guide how I would interact with students. Comparing the lecture's definition of culture, I would agree with the perspective. I also believe culture is shaped by personal experiences, allowing culture to forever be evolving. Need Assignment Help?
