When there is an attempt to manipulate various behaviors for whatever purpose, there are some important things to understand to successfully manipulate those behaviors. One of those elements that need to be understood is the reinforcement principle. The reinforcement principle states that a response that will occur more frequently if a reinforcer or an increase in a reinforcer has followed it in the past in similar settings ( Malott & Shane, 2014). Under the reinforcement principle is the reinforcement contingency which is caused by the response or produced by the response. It can take years using the reinforcement principle in things such as trying to become a professional athlete, or raising children and trying to teach them good habits. When someone is taught negative behaviors through the reinforcement principle, what steps will need to be taken in order to reverse or alter those behaviors?
