What steps could you take to ensure your random sample

Problem

This module's lab exercise will give you an opportunity to practice random sampling. Random sampling does occur frequently, and many pollsters such as Pew Research Center use this type of sampling in their survey research. To learn more about random sampling and how Pew Research uses it, please watch their short video in the Resource section below.

Punch (2014) discusses sampling in chapters 10 and 11. There are many different approaches to sampling, but all sampling strategies must consider the sample size, the process for selection, and question if the sample is representative of a larger population.

Thread: In your initial response, consider and respond to the following questions:

1) Pew Research uses random sampling for their survey questionnaire research. Why do they do that? What advantages are there to using random sampling when surveying adults in the USA?

2) Do you see any issues with choosing a sample this way?

3) What might be some concerns about randomly choosing a sample from a smaller population such as Facebook users?

4) What steps could you take to ensure your random sample is as "random" as possible for a potential study you might consider conducting?
