Assignment Task: You can choose to focus this next part on you in preparation for your own death (because everybody dies), but if it is triggering, please choose a famous person (musician, artist, activists, politician, etc.), that has already passed away as your subject. (Some ideas are: Marilyn Monroe, Elvis, Presley, John Lewis, Etta James, BB King, Prince, etc.)
Now plan your funeral or the funeral for a famous person. What arrangements would you like to make concerning the body, and what sort of funeral or mourning procedures or rites would you like carried out? Why? Be as specific as possible.
- Will there be flowers, music, food, a procession?
- Who will speak and what will they say?
- How do you want to be remembered or how do you want the celebrity to be remembered?
- Will the tombstone say?
- Will you record a message on a tablet for visitors to the gravesite?
Your death is part of your life and if we make plans for our daily life, then why not make plans about our death? Why would you allow other people to be in charge of such an important thing? Also please consider making a 'Will' if you haven't made one already. I made my first 'Will' when I was 21, the same year my mother died because I wanted it to be clear who my belongings went to and why. I update my 'Will' every year. In California all you need is someone who is 18 or older to sign as a witness to your 'Last Will and Testament' and then you should give it to people who you trust to follow your plans.
