Assignment Task: The major purposes of process recording are the following:

1) To structure thinking about your practice as a professional. This process can be used in any practice including in patient, clinic setting, group and individual work, or community.

2) To help organize what happens in the transactions between the professional and the client.

3) To heighten your awareness of yourself interaction with the client.

4) To separate subjective and objective information.

5) To practice identifying the specific communication skills that are most effective during your interaction with your clients.

Description of the transaction(s) - Content and Reaction

Record factual occurrences. Record the words you said and the words your client used to respond. Record what actually took place, how the meeting or interview began, what was done and said (including by you), omit feelings and judgments about these actions. Use the client's words as much as possible. Be certain to use quotation marks to indicate specific comments made by the client.

Record observations about the client system, yourself in action. the environment.

This includes a complete description of the environment in which the interaction took place

Describe the feeling content or tone of the transaction(s), on the part of both the client and yourself.- How did the client make you feel during the transaction. Describe the mood of the client and your reaction to their mood.

Skills Used

Identify the communication skill that you used. Record all skills used during the interaction.

Personal Response

o When you are talking, describe the subjective feelings (thoughts, feelings, sensations) that you experienced when you expressed these words.

When the client is talking, describe your subjective feelings to the client's verbal and nonverbal communications.

Analysis

When you are speaking, analyze and evaluate the choice of words, the skill(s) used, and the quality of your communication. Is there-SOT-tile ould

When your client is talking, briefly reflect upon the client's words and gestures during the exchange.

Overall Assessment of the Interview

What specific lessons have you learned that you will take into consideration in your next interview with this client and/or other clients?
