Examples of Prejudice

Consider a time when you have either been witness to or victim of prejudice or discrimination. If you have not personally had this experience, select an example from the news. The example can be based on any aspect of group membership (race, gender, sexual orientation, age, socio-economic status, marital status, religion, etc.).

The example of when I was victim of prejudice was when my family moved from Texas to Virginia. I am Mexican American, both of my parents are from Mexico. When I was seven years old my father moved our family to Virginia. There were no Hispanic attended my school. My brother and I spoke most Spanish. The children were so cruel. They call us wet backs. They made fun of us because we did not speak English very well. They make fun of our clothes. They even make fun of the food we ate. I was so happy when in a year our family move back to Texas.
