Homework: Sociology Matters

The purpose of this homework is for you to apply what you learned about sociology concepts, methods and perspectives during this learning activities. Use this week's reading and discussions and your personal experiences to inform your answers.
I. Consider the theme of the Sociology Matters below: Sociology matters because it explains why you accept certain social norms almost without thinking-and why you pay a price if you break those norms.

i. What social norms were you expected to conform to when you became a student at your college or university? Are they similar to or different from the norms you grew up with?
ii. What happens to students who do not conform to accepted social norms? Is social control on your campus stricter or more lenient than social control in other parts of society?
iii. Is crime a problem on your campus? If so, what social forces might underlie it?
iv. Select one bullet question listed in the Sociology Matters box above as your topic to illustrate these themes.
III. Write 700 words essay that shows how sociology matters in helping to explain your chosen topic. Be sure to demonstrate your understanding of this week's readings by correctly applying Key Terms related to your selected topic and supporting your answers with appropriate examples from the course readings or your personal experience.
IV. Organize your essay in paragraphs with introduction, body, and conclusion sections.
Format your homework according to the following formatting requirements:
i) The answer should be typed, using Times New Roman font (size 12), double spaced, with one-inch margins on all sides.
ii) The response also includes a cover page containing the title of the homework, the student's name, the course title, and the date. The cover page is not included in the required page length.
