Chinese culture underwent an incredible shift from the Imperial period to the modern (caused by the Maoist revolution). Certainly, the position of women in Imperial China (except for the period the Tang Dynasty) was not enviable.
1) LuLing's life is terribly complex. She experienced some of the major changes that China went through in the early to mid 20th Century. Which of these changes do you think was the most important? Why?
