What sexual exploitation refers to

Problem: This is another response: The American Psychological Association (APA) defines overt as something that is not hidden and is directly observable; the opposite being covert. Sexual exploitation refers to taking advantage of an individual for sexual purposes and could include coercing or pressuring someone into sexual acts through manipulation, threats, or the exchange of money, goods, services, or opportunities. Based on these definitions, overt sexual exploitation refers to direct and observable, more easily recognized acts of exploitation, whereas covert sexual exploitation refers to hidden, manipulative acts meant to exploit vulnerability, trust, or power while avoiding detection. Sexual grooming can be defined as a manipulative process that offenders use to establish trust, gain access to potential victims, and gradually prepare the victim for sexual abuse while minimizing suspicion and avoiding detection. Sexual grooming is used to reduce the chance that a victim will disclose abuse and to avoid abuse being recognized by others (Jeglic et al., 2023). This is one example of why covert sexual exploitation may be more difficult to identify and address through counseling, as victims may not recognize the manipulation or disclose the abuse.
