Homework: American History I
Part I
Responses to each prompt will be a minimum of 400 words. Cite all outside sources using APA style.
a) What role might the mounds have played in the mound-builder societies? Who would have seen these mounds and why were there so many different variations of mounds?
b) Discuss two specific Native American tribes and their reaction to the arrival of the Europeans. How was their resistance or cooperation beneficial to the tribe?
Part II

a) Give your thoughts about colonization. Analyze the benefits and drawbacks of this practice. Cite outside sources and give one historical example and one modern day example of the effects of colonization on indigenous cultures.
b) Explore the ways in which slavery was similar or different across the various countries and regions of the Americas, in its institutionalization, laws, customs, and labor practices.
c) What was the experience of the Hopi tribe during this period?
Part III
Role Play is a research technique causing one to think more deeply about the perspective of another person or group. For this assignment you should include a summary of your research with all sources cited, the questions you posed to your individual, and the individual's probable responses.
Research an individual that played a part in the American Revolution, ex. a Tory Scotch-Irish debtor from the back-country of South Carolina or a slave from New York who enlisted in the New York City militia.
a) Summarize the information you found on your chosen individual and
b) Pose two specific questions as to why this individual took the actions that they did in their role in the Revolution.
c) Now, put yourself in that person's shoes and answer the questions.
Length: 1500 words.
The historical research summary will require 500 words, while each of the answers to posed questions will be 500 words each. This will require you to ask incisive, historically important questions, and provide answers to adequately explore the perspective of the character.
Format your homework according to the give formatting requirements:
1. The answer must be double spaced, typed, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides.
2. The response also includes a cover page containing the title of the homework, the course title, the student's name, and the date. The cover page is not included in the required page length.
3. Also include a reference page. The references and Citations should follow APA format. The reference page is not included in the required page length.
