The Caribbean islands are often stereotyped in mainstream Western media as places where drug trafficking and abuse as well as political and gang violence are the order of the day. To what extent and in what ways do the films "The Harder They Come" and "Countryman" challenge or affirm and perpetuate these stereotypes? In your view, what role do these stereotypes play in the development of relations between the Caribbean islands and powerful nations such as the United States of America?
