Task
The This American Life "Retraction" podcast, and the debate between Ira Glass and Mike Daisey. You will analyze the rhetoric that the two speakers use to support their points. Answer each of these prompts with a paragraph.
i. Summarize the argument between the two. What did they disagree about, and what claims did they make in this agreement? 2. What rhetorical devices and strategies does Speaker A use to persuade the other speaker and readers?
ii. What rhetorical devices and strategies does Speaker B use? Are these similar or different?
iii. What counts as evidence in this disagreement? How do the two present evidence?
iv. In the end, which side persuaded you, and why? When talking about rhetorical devices, be sure to use the rhetorical terms ethos, logos, and pathos.
