"I chose CNN and Fox News

1-Are the news priorities different or similar?

-The news priorities are quite similar in they cover the most recent events both local and worldwide.

2-Are there any differences in how the news programs treat the same news story?

-Both news programs treat the same news story the same way, it is treated as breaking news, of utmost importance and relevance to the current society.

3-How did the broadcasts differ in how they presented subjects other than the breaking news, such as special in-depth reports, ongoing segments, etc?

-The broadcasts differed because CNN would often use POV from multiple sources, and interview people who were both on the scene and on the set, while FOX news would just use the information and knowledge of the people on the set.

4-What does this information tell you about the influence the media has on politics, politicians and their political agendas?

-This information tells us that the media has a big influence in politics because it tells the politicians what the public thinks of the issue, and how they should go to solve the issue in the best interest of the public so that the media would demonstrate how good the politicians are."

4. Now respond and comment to what you believe (agree or disagree) and on a student's personal response to both of the questions above. Have explanation.

"1. Are the news priorities different or similar?

I chose CNN and Fox News. Their news priorities were similar, bringing up breaking news as it came up and discussing current events.

2. Are there any differences in how the news programs treat the same news story?

Fox News tended to invite only a few people to speak on the subject and have their own announcers feed them questions/ build off on what they said. The other alternative they did was have their own shows where the announcer would discuss the topics covered. CNN was very similar, although generally CNN brought up more people to talk, some that actually worked for CNN and some that were invited onto the show. Fox News tended to shift the blame towards the liberals and democrats, while CNN tended to shift the blame towards the Trump administration as a whole and occasionally the GOP.

3. How did the broadcasts differ in how they presented subjects other than the breaking news, such as special in-depth reports, ongoing segments, etc? Both sides approached the presentation of their material fairly similar, and both sides could be seen to bring similar or the same facts during their discussions. However CNN had a liberal bias during its broadcast while Fox News took a more conservative bias.

4. What does this information tell you about the influence the media has on politics, politicians and their political agendas?

This information helps me realize that both media outlets fan the flames for their respective sides. Many of the points each side brought to the table were ones reiterated by politicians on both sides, attempting to bolster their respective claims. Many of the arguments and table talks each outlet had have been brought up as a political issue, such as immigration laws, gun control, North Korea speculations, etc., which help propel the political agenda as politicians figure out what issues to tackle that are of interest to the American public."

5. Select TWO of the following three questions and write a two paragraph response to them.

1. How has the media and technology changed the way political parties operate and nominate candidates? Give three examples to prove your theory.

2. Have changes in the formal presidential nomination procedures since the mid-1960's made the process more democratic? Name three specific changes that have occurred.

3. Describe the impact the complex nomination and convention process has on the political process?

6. Instructions:

1. Go to the iCivics Win the White House game.

2. Follow the instructions and prompts that take you through the game. You'll be asked to make decisions about your platform, how to raise and spend campaign contributions, and whether or not to take advantage of your opponent's misfortunes.

Create a guide to winning the presidential election. Include at least five to seven strategies that one should either use or avoid when running for president. Use bulleted points to designate your strategies; then provide at least a paragraph of explanation for each.

These strategies should be based on your experience in the game and the information you learned from the resources in the lesson.
