What prevention or treatment are you researching what do

Cardiovascular disease is the number 1 cause of death in the United States.

You know from your reading this week that a healthy diet and regular exercise are two ways to keep your heart and blood vessels working well, but you've probably heard a number of other ways to prevent heart disease.

This week, I want you to think of one thing you've heard about the prevention or treatment of cardiovascular disease that's not discussed in the reading. If you can't think of anything yourself, try asking your friends and family what they think is good for your heart, and pick something they say. Here are some ideas of what you might choose to research: Is there a specific food that might prevent or treat heart disease? A specific vitamin or herbal supplement? A specific activity? A specific food or chemical or activity that should be avoided?

Then, I want you to do a little research on what the experts have to say about this prevention or treatment. Here are a few suggestions of where to look:

American Heart Association (Links to an external site.)

Centers for Disease Control - Heart Disease (Links to an external site.)

Mayo Clinic - Heart Disease (Links to an external site.)

Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (Links to an external site.)

If you go to any other website to find your answers, make sure you think back to your Website Evaluation Assignment in week 1 and ask yourself if it's a reliable source. In particular, review the 10 Red Flags of Junk Science .

When you've figured out the truth of your chosen preventive, come back here and post, answering the questions below:

Read the directions above and answer the questions below for your week five discussion:

1. What prevention or treatment are you researching?

2. What do the experts say? Is this a good strategy? Explain.

3. Where did you get your information? Please provide the direct link.
