Prepare: Prior to tackling this second discussion question, again cook up some popcorn and watch the assigned movie, Cold War. As always, make sure you have the discussion questions handy as you watch the movie so that you can take some notes and respond effectively to these questions.
Reflect: Although communists and capitalists united during World War II to crush fascism, Hitler's defeat set the stage for allies to become adversaries once more. The movie frames the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union as the defining conflict of much of the 20th century. You will be shown how the world's then- two superpowers faced off in an uncompromising showdown over ideology and economics that would persist for five decades-not in a vacuum, but under the omnipresent threat of nuclear holocaust.
Write: In your initial post of at least 200 words, answer the following questions about the movie, Cold War:
• What political ideologies were in conflict during the Cold War?
• What economic systems were in conflict during the Cold War?
• Why did the U.S.S.R ultimately dissolve?
• Is the U.S. in or entering into a new Cold War with Russia? Why or why not?
