What political accountability affect a governments ability

Problem:

How does the lack or precense political accountability affect a governments ability to maintain power in democracies and non-democracies?

Political accountability in democracies is essentially the responsibility public political figures have to ensure that democratic practices are being maintained. For example, political accountability is demonstrated when democracies ensure free and fair elections or, when media independent of the government are allowed to openly report and journal on information. Although, political accountability can also be flawed such as independent media sources putting out misinformation. Although, in non-democracies, political accountability is often not present. For instance, election may not be free or fair and media is often restricted. With these perspectives in mind, political accountability can lead to ethical and non-ethical elements. However, not all nations are democracies nor are all nations non-democratic. Therefore, if both democracies and non-democracies can exist, what is the extent that political accountability has on maintaining the power in these governments? Need Assignment Help?
