Punishment has been administered in several forms over the years and has changed with time. Society today justifies punishment for five main reasons (retribution, deterrence, rehabilitation, incapacitation, and reintegration).
As you review these five reasons, explain which justification you identify with most closely and why. Include examples that support your selection. What other policies or suggestions do you have to reduce crime? Respond to a student who has selected a reason other than yours.
