Consult materials and do some research on María Lorena Ramírez. How is Ramírez a role model for Indigenous women not only in Mexico, but also in other countries? What do her accomplishments suggest about running traditions in Tarahumara culture? And, what does her relative lack of visibility outside of Mexico suggest about Indigenous elite athletes, specifically women, on the world stage? Why do you think she wears a traditional dress as part of these competitions? How might this performance of Indigeneity serve as a form of resistance? What other signs of resistance are evident when she competes against elite athletes? And, what is the significance of such resistance?
