He smokes ½ ppd and has been trying to quit unsuccessfully for years. On exam, he is found to have trace edema. His height is 6'2", and his weight is 222 pounds. His body mass index (BMI) is 28.5. His blood pressure (BP) is 146/87; HR 72. He does not have an abdominal bruit or a murmur. He has a normal funduscopic exam. His heart rate is regular, and his lungs are clear to auscultation. His labs show that his electrolytes and kidney function are within normal limits. Fasting glucose is 106 mg/dL and his HbA1c is 5.7%.
