Discussion Topic: Research in Child Development
There are a number of research methods that are used in child development research. As discussed in your textbook, Infants, Children, and Adolescents , systematic observations, self-reports, the clinical, or case study, method, and ethnography are often used when studying children and adolescents.
What might lead a researcher to opt for clinical interviewing (a type of self-report) over systematic observation?
What strengths and limitations do the clinical, or case study, method and ethnography have in common? What is the major difference between these two methods?
What ethical issues should you consider when conducting a research study with children? Identify and describe at least two ethical issues described in your textbook, Infants, Children, and Adolescents .
