Preparation:
You will be performing a content analysis of 1 hour of a television program of your choosing (ie., Shameless, House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, Scandal, etc). Prepare for this homework by reviewing the readings and your notes on the sociological perspectives discussed.
Instructions:
For this homework, you will perform a content analysis on one episode of a 1-hour television program. This homework will require you to don the hat of a sociologist undertaking a study using this particular sociological method discussed. Don your sociological cap to analyze the TV episode and answer the following:
1) Provide a brief synopsis of the television episode you're watching (a paragraph)
2) How does this particular television episode demonstrate each of the perspectives (functional, conflict, feminist, and symbolic interaction)?? You should be able to observe aspects of each perspective but may find one that is more dominant)
3) What may the TV show suggest about our culture?
4) What messages are being presented along race, class, and gender lines?
5) What are the social and/or political implications of the episode?
Format your homework according to the following formatting requirements:
(1) The answer should be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides.
(2) The response also includes a cover page containing the title of the homework, the student's name, the course title, and the date. The cover page is not included in the required page length.
(3) Also include a reference page. The Citations and references should follow APA format. The reference page is not included in the required page length.
