Many Americans believe that while social inequality may be inevitable, every child, no matter what their social background deserves an equal opportunity to achieve his or her goals. Given the relationship between greater levels of equality and greater opportunities for social mobility please share your thoughts on the following questions. Be sure to support your position with references to the textbook.
What kinds of changes do you think would help establish greater opportunities for everyone in American society?
Should the focus of our efforts to establish conditions more helpful to social equality be on the educational system? If so, why? If not, why?
Do we need to change other aspects of society in order to help create opportunities for social mobility? What things in society could we change to help people achieve social mobility?
Who might benefit from those changes in society? Do you think anyone would not benefit from those changes in society.
