Problem
A. Imagine the following possible real-world scenario...
B. Your apartment-mate texts you as you're walking back to your apartment from the subway one night after work, and you have this brief conversation with them...
a. Apt-mate: "Heyyy, we don't have anymore BANANAS at the apt. Pls get some at the deli on your way back here to the apt, ok?"
b. You: "Yepp! And I'm also getting a deli sandwich for dinner. Want one?"
c. Apt-mate: "Oh, you buying? Haha nope, I'm good. Thx."
C. You get to the local deli where you usually go and you put your sandwich order in. But IMMEDIATELY you notice out of the corner of your eye that a character wearing a hoodie and a black face-mask has come in and is waiving a gun at the cashier, signaling the cashier to take out all the money. The cashier gives the money over and the disguised character runs out.
D. The cops are called and they interview you, asking you what you saw...
a. Cops: "Tell us exactly what the guy did. And what did he look like!?!"
b. You: "He was wearing a hoodie and a mask - it was hard to see him!"
c. Cops: "Well, what did he do!?!"
d. You: "I don't really know - it's all a blur - but he didn't say a word - but he DID have a gun!"
e. Cops: "What else do you remember?"
f. You: "I honestly can't remember anything else."
E. You later get home with your deli sandwich, a little freaked out, and you tell your apartment-mate what happened, and your apartment-mate is glad you're okay, but then says...
a. Apt-mate: "Where those BANANAS?!?"
b. You: "Uhhhh, I totally forgot the bananas!"
Task
1) Referencing the cognitive terminology by describing WHY they "forgot to remember" the bananas. State what system of memory we're talking about here, and explain how and at what *stage(s)* of this particular system there seemed to be a deficit that likely caused them to forget to "carry out the intended action" of getting the bananas.
2) Also describe from a cognitive perspective WHY they were probably not able to recall much about the robber when the police were questioning them. What kind of specific LTM system(s) were the police hoping they could tap into to when they were questioning him? Describe these systems. How might the questions that the police asked him potentially cause him to *falsely report* what he thought he saw?
